Renting a luxury villa on the Costa Brava: areas, season and how to book

October 2026 · By Álvaro Ortuño Ros and Israel Sánchez, founding partners of Horlux & Emuna

The Costa Brava is a short coastline that changes completely from one stretch to the next: rocky coves and pines, fishing villages, farmhouses among fields and some of the best restaurants in Spain, just over an hour from Barcelona. Choosing the right area is half the stay. This guide sums up where to rent, when and how to book a staffed house.

The areas, from south to north

Tossa de Mar and Lloret. The stretch closest to Barcelona, with Tossa's walled old town and long beaches. For those who want to arrive quickly and move little.

S'Agaró, Platja d'Aro and Sant Feliu. Wide beaches, a seafront promenade, a marina and services all year round. Houses by the sea with easy access and plenty of restaurants.

Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu. The old fishing villages of Palafrugell, with white houses above the coves and the coastal path linking the three. It is the most sought-after area for a villa with views and the first to sell out in July and August.

Begur: Aiguablava, Sa Tuna, Sa Riera and Fornells. Crystal-clear coves and houses set in the rock among pines, with the village of Begur and its colonial mansions above. Discretion and landscape; less open beach.

The inland Baix Empordà. Restored farmhouses with pools among fields, near Pals, Peratallada, Monells or Ullastret. The natural option for large groups, celebrations and anyone who prefers space and a short drive to the coast.

Roses, Cadaqués and Cap de Creus. The north, wilder and windier, with Cadaqués as the reference village and Portlligat a step away. For quiet stays and landscape.

When to go

The season runs from May to October. July and August are the peak months, with the strongest demand and the best houses booked months ahead. June and September give the best balance of weather, sea and calm; May and October are ideal for the Empordà, golf and food, with the sea still pleasant in early October.

Out of season many houses by the sea close, but the inland farmhouses work all year round and are a good option for family and corporate gatherings.

How to get there

Girona-Costa Brava airport is thirty to fifty minutes from most areas; Barcelona airport just over an hour along the AP-7. The high-speed train reaches Girona and Figueres. A car is almost essential: the coves, villages and restaurants are spread along a coast of small roads.

What we publish and what the service includes

We publish 4 properties on the Costa Brava, sleeping 4 to 14 guests with 2 to 7 bedrooms, with indicative rates from 25,000 € per week for those with a published price.

Every house is rented with daily housekeeping, concierge and continuous attention throughout the stay; chef, transfers, boats and restaurant bookings are coordinated through a single point of contact. The selection published in luxury villas to rent on the Costa Brava is only part of the houses we have access to: if you are after something specific, ask us.

For groups of fourteen or more, the guide to large villas for groups explains what to look for (suites, shared spaces, service) and when to book.

How to book

Write to us with your dates, number of guests and the bedrooms you need, and whether there is a celebration. We reply with concrete options, confirmed availability and written terms before any commitment. We also cover Barcelona and Sitges, under an hour away, if the stay combines city and coast: luxury homes to rent in Barcelona.
