Mexico has three very different villa destinations: the Caribbean of the Riviera Maya, the Pacific of Punta Mita and the desert-by-the-sea of Los Cabos, plus the capital. This guide sums up what each offers, when to go and how to book a staffed house from Europe.
Riviera Maya: Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Akumal
The Caribbean coast of Quintana Roo, south of Cancún. Tulum holds the contemporary houses between jungle and beach, close to the cenotes and the archaeological site; Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras offer more services, a marina and golf courses, and Akumal and Punta Maroma, villas with private beaches and calm water. Access is via Cancún airport (one to two hours by road depending on the area) or the new Tulum airport.
Punta Mita and Sayulita, on the Pacific
On the Riviera Nayarit, north of Puerto Vallarta, Punta Mita is a private peninsula with golf, sheltered beaches and the most fully staffed villas on the Mexican Pacific; Sayulita, a few minutes away, adds village life and surf. Puerto Vallarta airport is around forty-five minutes away.
Los Cabos, in Baja California Sur
Between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo, the tourist corridor combines desert, the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific, marinas and golf. The villas, many inside gated developments with beach clubs, look out to sea from the cliffs. Los Cabos international airport has direct flights from the United States and Mexico City.
Mexico City
For city stays, Condesa, Roma and Polanco hold the spacious apartments, the restaurants and the museums. A good two- or three-night complement before or after the coast.
When to go
The dry season, from November to April, is the best in all three coastal destinations, with Christmas, New Year and Easter the dates in highest demand. June to October brings more rain and, in the Caribbean, hurricane season; on the Pacific the summer is hot and humid, with rougher seas for surfing. Mexico City works all year round.

We publish 4 properties in Mexico, sleeping 4 to 16 guests with 2 to 5 bedrooms, with indicative rates from 30,000 € per week for those with a published price.
